Stocking Stuffer Project - Wrap Day One

Eva Dickerson, Cochise College Advancement Manager, gave a rousing talk on our local community college and the programs and classes offered. The most popular degree programs are nursing and automotive, but there are many degree and certificate programs, to include Building Technology that give daily hands on training by building a house a year in Fry Townsite. The Douglas campus opened a police academy with intense training in law enforcement that graduated 16 last week and all stayed in Cochise County. Cochise College offers a scholarship incentive to high school graduates once they register in a degreed program. There are lifetime learning courses, workforce training, GED courses, UAV program and agriculture (in Douglas). So much to offer the full-time student and the occasional learner. The Joyce Clark Middle School (JCMS) Builders Club presented 200 dog toys they made to Jeff Ingerson who is an Animal Control Officer at the Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center. Jeff also spoke to the club about rabies and how to protect yourself. He told the club members to never pick up a bat, as they are one of the worst carriers of rabies. He talked about being called out a lot because of barking dogs and how it poses a nuisance for the neighborhoods. Jeff then thanked the club for the dog toys and told them the center is always happy to get toys and support for the fur babies. ... See more

Monday evening meeting hosted Mr. John Black, Commander, of the Cochise County Sheriff Assist Team (SAT). The team assists San Pedro Kiwanis in almost every project we have in our community and especially with the Stocking Stuffer deliveries in rural areas. The SAT team of approximately 40 individuals are responsible for non-law enforcements tasks and crime detention that allows CCSO to focus on their mission. These services include crime scene security, traffic control, funeral escort, community support, detention operations, DUI Van drivers, neighborhood watch programs and the list goes on and on. Their volunteer hours have doubled over the last two years. It’s impressive on how much support these volunteers provide to our communities and our projects. Thank you SAT.
